Some Brews and Some Border Fence

On Friday, I was informed that they found a teacher for the position I was subbing.  I think they were ready to hire me, but I needed to change my certificate, and the classes weren't really what I wanted to do for a whole year!  I looked it up and looked like I needed some classes for Special Education, and I'm not really wanting to go back to school again!!  It was nice for the time I was there, but kind of glad to move on to other jobs.  Hopefully, I will be able to find some!

    J Six Lounge

Geoff had a function with the command that afternoon.  Because we had a minimum day at school (half day), I was able to go.  I rushed to check in all my books to the library, and get to Geoff's work so we could go to J Six's.  This was a really cool place.  It was a pool area and bar rooftop area in between some hotels.  It was nice to hang out have drinks up there.  The service was really slow, but all in all a great time.  I got to meet some of Geoff's many bosses and people he works with, so that was fun!  As we were leaving, the Cointreau ladies were walking around giving out shots.  Of course, I had to have a few of those!!  They had some sunglasses there too; I was like can I have some of those awesome glasses!  They gave me some, but had to have a picture taken first!  Got some new pool glasses!!  All in all a great way to spend a Friday!!

                                                     The View!

LOL!  I thought this was awesome! :)

My new shades and my shot!

Outlet Mall Time

Saturday, Geoff promised to take me to the outlet mall in San Ysidro.  I was kind of nervous to go alone, so I made Geoff take me!  Now I was prepared to be close to Mexico, but wow!!  The back of the stores were so close to the Mexico fence it was crazy!!  I really enjoyed dragging Geoff around to the stores!  He's a trooper!  I told him we could go to the Mexican food place after and get some drinks; if he was good! LOL  We weren't very smart.  We were already parked close to the place, but got in the car and moved, but this place was crowded by now so couldn't find a place to park.  We ended up going back to Oggi's; a favorite of ours!  I was feeling like some liquor drinks and saw they had Mule's.  We had to have a couple of those for Geoff's sister Emily and fiance Ben!!  They took us to a place in South Carolina to have some!! MMMMM  Yummy!  Had some Cape Cod's, beers, and pizza!!  Great time!

                                                      Mexico!

                                                   The Flag!

Mexico Left!  Seems like we should be going that way to get home!!!  Don't get lost!!  Wind up in Mexico!

Oggi Original Mule and Oggi Kentucky Mule!

My Husband hates all my picture taking!!

                                                  Liking the Cape Cods!

I woke up this morning for my usual Sunday morning run.  So much nice running without the sun beating down on you and with out uncomfortable pains!  Think I actually ran better than the race last weekend!  I ended up going 14 miles in 1:49.  We had a nice message at church.  Our preacher's last Sunday is next Sunday; going to miss his Sermons.

  S'more's!

My latest Smore's desserts!!  S'more cookies and Inside out S'mores.  Both good, but cookies defiantly one of our top favorites!!

Mark Run a Half Marathon of My List

On Saturday, Geoff and I went to pick up our race packet.  We drove downtown to the Sheraton to the AFC Expo, checked out the booths, and picked up our stuff.  I rummage through all these pretty cool running shirts for probably 45 minutes, and never did buy one.  They had cool things on them like; will run for beer, sorry honey not to night I have a long run in the morning, running cheaper than therapy, and will run for wine.  These were some of my favorites!!  Found some I liked but not the perfect color with the perfect phase, so not meant to be.  We then went to meet one of Geoff's buddies from the fleet for lunch.  We went to the San Diego Beer Co.  They had good beer and good food.  We were carb loading before our big race!  They had some interesting beer choices.  I was really looking forward to the Peanut Butter Milk Stout, but sadly they were all out!  I did enjoy the one with banana!!  It was nice meeting one of Geoff's friends, especially since he thought I was beautiful! LOL  I told Geoff he's a keeper!  I loved hearing the stuff Josh (Beef; cause big muscles they call him that) had to say about Geoff.  We then went home to rest, have some more beers, and some baked spaghetti.

                                                                        Expo!

                                         Getting my number #5666

Dorks taking a picture in a mirror!

Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout!! all out though :(

    Race time!

We woke up early Sunday morning, to make it to the place to catch the bus to take us to the starting line.  This bus was an awesome bus!  I wish we had these things going to Laredo!  Nice seats with tables in between with four seats facing each other!  Serious card playing tables!  Once we get there there is still over a hour before the race begins.  Basically, I could have woke up at my normal 4am and had my run done by the time this race started!  It was nice to have my Sunday morning run with thousands of other people though!  I turned and looked around while waiting to start, and it was crazy the amounts of people around!  Once the race starts, I remember Sid's advice; don't start too fast!  There was no starting fast, I was too busy getting trapped behind people.  Geoff and I weaved in and out of people the whole first mile.  We stayed together for awhile and then I decided I needed to try to meet my goal time.  So, the crappy wife that I am, I left him and was out on my own.  I enjoyed playing the game with myself don't get passed more times than you pass people.  I think I accomplished this.  I didn't reach my goal, but I had some excuses.  I am disappointed in my run, but I will be satisfied enough to not run another one.  I hate excuses so let this be my explanation of why it wasn't my best run.  Yes, I know that is the same thing, but sounds a little better! :)

     1.  I had a hamstring issue and had to lay off running for 2 weeks before this run
     2.  I started my period this morning.  Yes, I was always the coach that said exercise helps, but really still  had cramps.  I took advil before we left but apparently they wore off around mile 10 or so...
     3.  I had to pee the whole time!!  As soon as we started moving to the start I had to pee!!  Of course, by then I wasn't going to go or stop during the race!
     4.  It was hot!  So, I'm used to running in the dark before the sun comes up in this nice cool weather, but today sun blazing in my face!!
     5.  Hills suck!!  I had been practicing hills, but seriously!!

Again, not going to excuse the run I had with those reasons, but they sure played a factor in the run.  So, you ask how did I finish.... Well I ran a 1:42.40 and was over all 345 place, 79 among women, and 20 in my age group.  Not where I wanted to be, but not terrible.  Goal time was 1:38.  I won't lie and say I didn't walk.  I walked about 5 minutes, which hurt me.... Well it's over and maybe I'll run another one, but for now I'm good!

                                                                    DONE!

This is the first race I have ran since my friend Meagen talked my into running some Cinco de Mayo run.  She forgot to mention everyone was running the 5K not the 5 miler which I signed up for!!  But I didn't back down!  Megan Miller, even though she had worked late the night before, stuck in the 5 miler with me!  I can still remember passing up Meagen on the last part of my race cheering her to keep running!!  She's like stay with me; push me, told her not to stop,  but I had to go with this thing!!  And I did; ended up 1st place!  We all drank some free beer to celebrate!!  Haven't ran a race since.  But today Meagen you were there cheering me on; I know you were.  Miss you and love you girl.

 Chipotle

So, on our race bib there was a coupon for buy one, get one at Chipotle.  Geoff is always talking about how great this place is and I had never been to one, so let's do this.  We go all grunged out, but who cares we won't see anyone we know.  When we walk in, the pastor from the church we go to is there with some congregation members!!  Awesome, and we didn't go to church today.  But, of course, all nice people so we chatted.  I am rude though and went outside to eat my burrito!!

Adventures of Subbing

Now I have my own class, so I am actually busy trying to plan lessons for these kids, as they have been in school three weeks without a teacher!  It was pretty interesting just being thrown in with nothing, but we are making it work.  Do you have a book?  No.  What!?!?  Ok, what have you been doing the past three weeks?  Nothing.  Awesome!  So, where do I begin?  I finally find books for these classes, so I can try to teach these kids something!  I'm in a special education class, so they are a little behind but entertaining.  I tried on Monday to find a teacher to help me in each subject, but during my off times they stuck me in other classes.  So, on Tuesday, I just told the lady in the office I was in search of guidance so please don't put me anywhere!!
So, I'm not just teaching one subject, which has made it hard to find people to help me.  I found one lady, and she agreed to meet with me.  She helped me in multiple areas, which was nice.  I'm on the right track and getting this done!  The principal told me we need grades for these kids!!  I'm like ok give me a book!!  This is a lot more work than I was bargaining for when I was wanted a stress free job!!  It's like full time teacher on a third of the salary!!  But it is nice, keeps me busy, keeps me teaching, and I get to walk to work!!!  I was expecting to go sub and hand out a worksheet or watch a movie, not plan and actually grade papers!!!

 Subbing Fun

I did get cussed out by a kid.  Always fun being called a f-ing b!!  Not that it hasn't happened before!!  Cool thing was a girl stood up and told him off for me!!

I was getting water at the water fountain and kept missing my bottle, but didn't notice it was going over the edge onto my pants and shoes!! Awesome!!

Apparently I say y'all a lot and the kids think it's hilarious!  We actually have a game going in one class to count how many times I actually say it!  I caught one kid saying it; think I'm going to bring y'all to California!!

I give these kids the answers to the work we are doing and they still get them wrong!!  I'm like just copy it off the board!!!

Smitrina and the Lucky Hair Tie

After I finally found my hair tie last week, she will not leave it alone.  Friday when I got home from work, my socks were out and my watch was out of my shoe, which I had attached the rubber band to.  She can't get it off now!!  I actually thought Geoff was playing a joke on me, because how could a cat really get my socks out of my shoe and fish my watch out of the very top of my shoe.  This keeps happening each day; I guess I'll learn and put it somewhere else!

                                            Friday after work!

This is how I leave them!

  S'mores Addiction

After trying many different s'mores recipes, I think I have found my favorite and the one that is closest to Pioneer Days!  This one has Rice Krispies in it and Golden Grahams!!  I accidently messed up the first time and thought I bought vanilla, but it was almond extract!!  They weren't as good, but I tried it again, and they were a winner!!  :)  I am making two more different recipes this weekend or next week, whenever I have time hopefully they are just as tasty!

                                                 MMMMMMM!!!!!!

Half Marathon

I was in the best shape of my life before this little hamstring problem, but I'm still going to head out this Sunday and try my best.  I want to do good since this could be my one and only one of these, but at the same time I scared to extend my leg.  I did get to run today, and no pain.  Just wanted to see if I could run.  It was nice and easy just to get something done, since it has been two weeks of no running!!

Geoff Come Home

Haven't talked to him much since he's been in the desert, but he thinks tomorrow night he will get to come home!!  So excited to have him back!  He may not be too excited, since I tend to grade papers and plan when i come home and then wake up at 4am.  But can't wait to see him!! :)  I bet he's excited about running this half, since he's been in the desert and I'm sure hasn't ran any!!

This tends to be my life!

I'm a Substitute!!

I finally got my letter that I was cleared to be a substitute.  So, I ventured out to the administration building on Monday to get my ID Badge made.  I got my badge, but for some reason it was for 2013-2014, so I have to go back again to get one for 2014-2015.  Didn't make any sense to me, but okay I'll come back and do this again.  After the badge was done, apparently I'm ready to sub!  When I got home from exploring all the different things the exchange had, I noticed on the Subfinder website there was a job at the high school near our house for that afternoon.  But I chickened out, and was mad at myself for it, so as soon as the next one came open, I grabbed it.  I was going to sub in a basic math class on Tuesday.  How bad could basic math be, really!  I was able to walk to the school, which was nice not having to deal with school traffic.  I had wore some shoes I just bought and they scratched the backs of my ankles up.  Luckily, in the classroom I scored two band aids in the teachers desk!!  It was an interesting day needless to say, but I survived.  I was walking home, slowly, due to my ankles hurting and my pulled hamstring from my morning run and to my luck the gate was closed.  Awesome, now I have to walk all the way around to get out of here.  As I hobbled back, the head security guard saw me and was like are you ok?!  He came to my rescue and gave me a ride to the gate and opened it for me, so I was closer to getting home!
I picked up a Special Ed job at a middle school the next day.  I really enjoyed this, except the teacher was there which made it a little awkward at times.  Geoff and I tried out the food truck gathering they have on Wednesdays at a church.  There were about 5 different food trucks and the 2 with sweets.  We scoped them out and decided on the BBQ truck.  Geoff got a pork sandwich with macaroni and cheese inside.  I really wanted one with brisket and mac and cheese, but went for just the brisket sandwich, which was really good; just like Texas BBQ.  I have to say Geoff did pick the winner though!  It was pretty cool and looking forward to  trying out some other food trucks in the future.  Only thing to make this better would be a cold beer!!  Or even some ice cream! :)
I got to walk to work again the next day to another basic math class.  This was interesting since, she told me to play a video but what video, I had no idea.  Which led for a boring day since it was a block day and classes were a hour and a half plus 30 more minutes of TP time (study time).  Awesome!  But I survived yet another day.
Not going to lie I'm excited about being off Friday!!  Feels like 1st day of school everyday and for me, that means can't sleep, anxiety!!  And hopefully my hamstring is better, because after two days of no running, I need to unwind with a good run!
So I'm not going to lie here, I wrote this in my last class today, so a little premature.  When I got to the office to turn in my stuff, they asked me if I wanted to work tomorrow and for the next two weeks.  Ah not really, but I can't say no to your face!! So sure!  So much easier to say no to the computer!!  :)  I had been avoiding picking up a job for tomorrow all day!  But at least its close, so I can walk to work and it will keep me busy for some time.  Geoff is going to the desert this weekend for a week, so it will help that I have something to do all week!  And yes, I tried to jog today and nope; hamstring not ready! :(  Got two weeks before my half marathon, better be ready!!!!!
I have to quickly say me and Smitty have been fighting over my hair ties!  It is so funny; well not to me.  I will stuff my rubber band in my shoe, put my watch on top, and a sock and somehow she still gets it out.  This week, she got my lucky hair tie and I was not very happy.  I looked everywhere.  It was funny because its like she knew what she had done.  She watched me look in my shoes, behind stuff, and as I walked around she walked around....  Crazy!!!  I spent three days looking for this thing until finally it just came to me; its in the closet!  It had slid under the door and was in the closet!!  I found it!!  Happy moment for JILL!!!  Smitty was scratching me trying to get it from me!!  It's like a game for her!

                                                        ID Badge

Walking to work my first day!

                                                      Awe man!! :(

                                              Food Truck Gathering

                                                 The one we picked

                                                 Geoff's sandwich!

Another week in the books

Tuesday Geoff asked if I wanted to go to the Farmers Market near our house and walk around.  Sure why not.  So, after work we went to check it out.  It was mostly restaurants cooking food, but there were a few crafts and vegetables.  I noticed the stores were still open, so casually asked Geoff if I could check them out.  So, I got to go to the Gap, Loft, and Banana Republic!!  Geoff is such a trooper, always giving me his two cents, which I love so much!!  We had a lot of fun and I finally got to check out some stores close by, even got some new clothes!!
Wednesday, we had a visit from the preacher set up for that evening.  Pastor Mike is a really nice man and just wanted to get to know us, which I thought was pretty cool.  He is leaving the church at the end of the month, so we are bummed about that because he is so helpful.  He makes us feel welcome and has a great message each week.  He left us thinking about a lot of things in our lives, which we were able to hash out when he left.
After Pastor left, I think Geoff felt sorry for me, and asked me to lunch the next day.  So, I got ready and went out to the base to pick up my lunch date!!  It was so fun to hangout for the quick two hours!  I drove him to Coronado to the base there.  I drove, I stress that!! I don't drive him many places, because apparently my driving skills aren't up to par!!  We had lunch on the base golf course.  It was a nice day and a nice place for lunch.  Geoff didn't want to go back to work, so he went to the commissary and the package store with me.  And yes he took over driving after lunch!  It was fun having a cart pusher with me, so I could run around grab stuff and take it back, lol.  I know that place stresses him out, so luckily I only needed a few things.  He drove me around his area of the base, which was really neat to see.
Geoff was on duty this weekend, so Friday night he got called back to work.  I don't think he was very happy about this, but he went.  He had to go in each morning to send out some emails.  Saturday afternoon, Nick and Angie came over for hamburgers.  Geoff used to live with Nick in California.  We grilled out at the pool, had drinks, hot tub time, and conversation.  Geoff worked on his grilling skills by grilling us some perfect burgers!!  We had corn, black bean salad, s'mores, and all the fixings!  Geoff told me I know how to entertain, because if it was up to him we would have PB&J!!  It was nice a nice evening and lots of fun.  Nick is allergic to cats, so that was interesting with Smitty!  But he made it with minimal sneezing.  Nick and Angie are pretty nice; if I can talk about making sausage and shooting deer and no one freaks out, your okay!!
Since Geoff had to go to work Sunday morning, we decided to go to the later church service.  Pastor wanted to introduce us to some of the younger crowd and see what we felt about that service.  I'm more of a traditional kind of girl when it comes to church, but it wasn't bad.  No hymns, just loud Christian Rock music, but still had a good message, and we met some other couples.  I'm sure we will go back, but maybe switch off.  I felt like I was cheating on the first service people!!!  I'm sure they think we quit!!
I am pretty proud of my July run log so I'm adding it in on here!  Doubt I'll be able to do it again, but we will see.  I'm already behind for August!!  Geoff and I have signed up for a 1/2 marathon August 17th so gotta be ready!!

                                                      Lunch!! :)

                                                 RUN!!  JULY!!
